ScotLand Futures: Shaping the future of Scotland’s land
What is ScotLand Futures?
Scotland’s land is at the heart of our communities, economy, and environment. Over the past 25 years, land reform has brought real change, but the journey isn’t over. ScotLand Futures is an opportunity to explore what a fully reformed approach to land in Scotland could look like and how we can make it happen.
This initiative is about thinking big, tackling challenges, providing certainty for the future and finding practical solutions to ensure land benefits everyone, from rural and urban communities to businesses and future generations.
ScotLand Futures - Shaping the future of Scotland's land
Why now?
Scotland is at a pivotal moment in land reform. While progress has been made, key issues remain in how our land is owned and used. Now is the time to explore the next big step, providing certainty for communities, businesses, and landowners alike.
How to get involved
This is an open opportunity for people to get involved in shaping what comes next, and there are several ways to take part.
Attend an event: We will be hosting a number of online and in person events throughout the year. Check out our events page to find out more and register to join discussions happening across Scotland.
Share your views: Tell us what a fully land reformed Scotland could look like, and what it would mean to you by completing our online form. Our short online form includes just two main questions, along with a few optional demographic questions to help us understand who we’re hearing from. We’re sharing the questions below so you can take your time if you'd like to reflect before filling in the form:
- What changes would you like to see in how land is owned and used in Scotland and what difference would that make to you, your community or your work?
- When you think about land in your area, what’s most important to you?
We want to hear voices from across Scotland, whether you're a farmer, landowner, business owner, urban or rural resident, or simply someone with a view on the future of Scotland’s land.
Stay informed: Follow updates, insights, and key contributions by joining our mailing list and following us on social media. Use #ScotLandFutures to share your thoughts and be part of the conversation.
What’s next?
The ideas and perspectives gathered through ScotLand Futures will contribute to shaping the future of land reform in Scotland. By bringing together a wide range of voices, we aim to develop a shared understanding of how land can be owned and used in ways that support communities, businesses, and the environment over the long term. Insights gathered will be used to inform public debate and support policy development, with a summary of contributions to be published later this year. We invite you to add your voice to the conversation.
