Recommendations published by Land Commission

The Scottish Land Commission today published its recommendations to the Scottish Government on the draft Land Rights and Responsibilities Statement and the Future of the Planning System Consultation.

In exercising their functions the Land Commissioners must have regard to the Land Rights and Responsibilities Statement prepared under part 1 of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016.  The Land Commission has reviewed the likely impact and effectiveness of the Draft Statement in relation to its intended outcomes and made recommendations to Scottish Ministers.

The planning system, and especially its operation through planning legislation and policy, has a significant impact on the use and management of land in Scotland. The Scottish Government’s consultation on the future of the planning system offers an important opportunity to link land reform priorities with those of planning reform and the Commission has submitted a response to the consultation.
